I was lifting weights one day.

I suppose I lifted a bit too much -- or for too long --- or on top of an injury --- or something.

No pain, no gain. I know and embrace that. I also know that I can overdo it. There is a balance to it all and sometimes I don't know where the edge is until I've gone over it.

All is well. We break down tissue and the healing brings development, strength, and a host of benefits.

None of those dead weights achieved any benefit from being lifted by me. I received them all. It is different with lifting people. Then, the person lifting and the person being lifted are both blessed.

So, I thought I'd see what we could do for an acronym on "lift."

L - Love - No to be trite, but if what we do to lift another is not moved by love and infused with love, nothing positive has happened. It is always about the other person and never about ourselves. When I lift weights, it is about God and me. When I lift people, it is about God and them and I get benefits in a peripheral way.

I - Intuition - How do you know when to encourage, edify, or lend a hand to help? You learn to feel your way through it. You do that by developing the vulnerable art of sensitivity. For some, it comes easy. For others, it is counter-intuitive to be intuitive. However, by slowing down and using all of our senses, we will know when we are needed.

F - Fight - When we lift a weight, we are fighting resistance. The resistance is the weight, but the greater resistance is within us. We press against what seems to be an unmovable force with strength we do not know we possess. And that force retreats. We are lending our shoulders to a soul who does not know he or she can move upward. We are not fighting their battles for them, but with them. We become a team and rejoice with them when they overcome their resistance. In the process, we realize that we have overcome much as well.

T - Today - The question is, and always is, "Who can I lift today?" We make ourselves available and stay available. If we are willing, the one who needs a lift will cross our paths. If will happen because the world is full of people who are struggling. Some are discouraged. Others just need a hand. God will bring you into contact with people who need a lift and with others who will lift you. After all, it is also His work:

1 Samuel 2:8

"He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. "For the foundations of the earth are the LORD's; upon them he has set the world." (NIV)

Check Your Links

Some links go dead - stone cold.

I just found one of mine posted on a number of sites that is no longer in effect because the affiliate program terminated at the begining of the month.

Now I have a job to do tomorrow. I will need to replace those because nothing is as discouraging as clicking a dead-end link (well - some things are, but not in linkdom).

Keep your links fresh and it will reflect care and relevance in your blogging.

Linking and Cross-Linking

One of the great advantages to blogging is that, by using hyperlinks, you can create indexing and organization that flows with your thinking and enables your readers to do more research without having to learn your filing system.

It also enables you to find interesting articles that you might otherwise lose. By linking to thse in your own posts, you create a trail that you can follow back to the source.

Something to Say

The bottom line of blogging is having something to say and saying it. Some considerastions for successful self-expression through blogging include, but are not limited to:

1. Say it well - clearly and simply with descriptive language.
2. Say it as briefly as possible.
3. Say it more than once in different ways if you really want to get the message across.
4. Say it with words that get attention and traffic.
5. Say it in an attractive and readable setting.
6. Say it somewhere that is easy to find - Make sure people can remember or find your site.
   

It occured to me yesterdat that I could post more regularly in all my blogs if I were not so determined to be wordy in each of them. So here you go - a little bite of bytes.

How do we drive traffic to our sites?

Let me answer that with some tentative, inexpensive, and basic tricks that you can do right now. For massive traffic, a careful strategy that employs tools will come later. Try these now.

• E-mail all your friends with a hyperlink to your site and an invitation to join.
• Accept comments and trackbacks.
• Visit other sites and blogs and comment on and quote from them. Leave them trackbacks and comments.
• Leave your hyperlink for your site everywhere you participate on the Internet.
• Print cheap business cards with your link.
• Employ the labels available at the bottom of your posts on most servers.
• Participate in web-based forums, posting your link.
• Use hot words and titles and comment on current events in your field of interest.
• Post regularly - unlike this blog that has been a bit inactive until now, most of mine have regular postings and fresh material.
• Join services like Technorati.
• Consider starting or participating in a blogroll.
• Learn what these terms mean that I am tossing out. I will write more about them later.

One of the ways people are consistently earning pennies is through Goodgle AdSense. These simple ads are targeted, tasteful, easy to configure, and very available.

Wright, whose personal blog, Ensight provides some of the latest and most compelling information in the blogging industry (and for him, it is an industry), has written one of the most comprehensive introductions to the subject of business blogging. The principles transfer well to te area of ministry as well. Some apply; some don't. Do your own sorting.

The Ooze Annual Blog Tools Roundup is sort of old, but is a good introduction to the subject of blogging. Just keep in mind that some of the information is out of date.

At the risk of putting myself out of busisness before I get started, let me recomend a blog for bloggers and thoses whoare tmepted with the prospect of dangling their feet in the blog bog.

Bloggers Blog is more than just an online journal. It connects numerous sources through links that can give an aspriring online journaler a wealth of information and instruction. Some of the things you'll need to be learning about is syndication, often associated with terms like feeds, RSS, XML, and subscriptions.
